Beginners’ Karate Class

March 27 @ 7:15 pm - 7:30 pm GMT

Join us for a queer and trans karate class. We are so excited!

This class will cover absolute fundamentals of karate such as straight punches, kicks and blocks. No experience is needed at all (beginner friendly class). To start there will be no sparring and contact is optional so everyone can go at their own pace. Whether you tried karate as a kid, have always wanted to give it a go or are just here for the Gi, we can’t wait to see you.

Some words from your coach Eden (they/them):

My name is Eden (they/them) and I have been training traditional Shotokan karate for well over a decade and teaching for the last 4 years. I am in love with this martial art and I am super excited to share it with my community. Karate originates in Okinawa as a form of self defence, and is now practiced all round the world in various different styles. I have gained a lot from karate personally, it has given me a huge amount of self confidence and improvement, it is a fantastic outlet for my emotions and the white Gi makes you look great doing it. Really looking forward to seeing you all so I can introduce you to traditional karate. OSS!

What to wear/bring: Wear clothes you can exercise in. We will train in bare feet, so you don’t need trainers. Please bring some water.

The class will begin at 7:30, please arrive at 7:15 so that you are ready to start at 7:30. There is a toilet that you can change in, or you can arrive in your exercise clothes. There is a tap for you to get water.

As with all of our classes, come as you are – you don’t need to be ‘good at it’ or ‘be fit’. We welcome queers of all abilities, particularly those who don’t feel at home in mainstream gyms. We don’t tolerate transphobia, fatphobia, ableism, racism or fascism.
NO COPS IN OUR CLASSES.

We always reserve free spaces for people on a low income, trans women/transfem people and QTBPOC. So if this is you, and you can’t get (or afford) a ticket, message @bender_defenders_ on instagram or email the.bender.defenders@gmail.com.
