Ceramic Sculpture Smoke Firing Paper Kiln – 2 Day Workshop

July 20 @ 12:00 pm - August 3 @ 3:00 pm BST

Communal Clay return to the garden with an exciting two day workshop, exploring new ways of working with natural materials, reconnect with nature and find inspiration in the garden.

This event takes place on Saturday 20th July AND Saturday 3rd August. Please only book if you can attend both dates.

Day One

Make a ceramic sculpture using clay, with guidance from artists and collaborators Tabitha Weddell and Alice Kasahara Macrae. Together, we’ll learn about different decoration techniques, using slips made from locally sourced wild clay.

12pm – 2pm

Day Two

Two weeks later (to allow time for the clay to dry out) we will be back in the garden to learn about the process of building a paper kiln together collaboratively, which the ceramics will be smoke fired in.

While the smoke works its magic, we’ll share a communal meal together in the sunshine.

12pm – 3pm (though the firing might take a little longer, so you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the garden for a little longer).

This is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills, connect with craft and nature. Come with lots of ideas, practical clothing (and sunscreen if it’s sunny!). Please make sure you’re able to collect your work promptly in the weeks after the event, Communal Clay and Glengall Wharf Garden are not responsible for any items left at the garden.

The ticket price includes both workshops, all materials, teaching and a communal meal. Please only book if you are able to attend both sessions. There are a limited number of spaces available for this workshop and if you can no longer attend, please notify us a minimum of 72hrs beforehand for a refund, so your space can be allocated to someone else to enjoy.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy the garden and educational opportunities available. If payment is a barrier to access, please email burgessfoodproject@gmail.com.

If you have any questions regarding accessibility, please get in touch.

Photographs may be taken at this event for future use by Communal Clay and Glengall Wharf Garden only. If you would prefer not to be photographed, please just let us know.

Please note, in the event of heavy rainfall or adverse weather conditions this event will be postponed.
